It seems like Nick Jonas ripped a page out of the rom-com playbook when it came to wooing his fiancée, Priyanka Chopra. Not only did he reportedly shut down the Tiffany & Co store while shopping for her engagement ring (just like in Sweet Home Alabama), but he made quite a romantic first impression.
The 36-year-old actress recently opened up about her whirlwind romance with Jonas for her Vogue cover story, sharing that the first time she met the “Jealous” singer at the Vanity Fair Oscars party last year, he legit got down on one knee — not to propose, but to profess his attraction.
Here’s how it all went down. Jonas was hanging out casually by the bar, when he noticed Chopra, dressed in Micheal Kors, “breezing through” the room. The Quantico alum must have cast some kind of love spell on the singer, because what happens next seemed out of character for the reserved star (Chopra calls him “Old Man Jonas” due to this quiet demeanor, despite their 10-year age gap).
“And I put my drink down,” Jonas told Vogue, “get on one knee — this is in front of a bunch of people — and I say, ‘You’re real. Where have you been all my life?’ Like, loud.”
Keep in mind that prior to their meeting, the lovebirds had been solely texting each other. Chopra says that the 26-year-old was the one who kicked off their back-and-forth beginning in September 2016. She described their correspondence as “friendly with an eye toward flirtation.”
It wasn’t until a year and a half later that they first sparked dating rumors after they attended the Met Gala together in May 2017 (they were both guests of Ralph Lauren). Apparently, the fact that they were publicly photographed together then — and even now — is a big deal for the actress, who has never allowed herself to have her picture taken with a boyfriend.
“I’ve had that rule my whole life,” she said. “Never publicly acknowledge a relationship. Ever.”
Now, after getting engaged in July 2018, the couple is set to be married in early December with a “three-day extravaganza” that will take place at a palace in India and will fuse both Indian and American wedding traditions.
As for which designer the bride will be wearing when she walks down the aisle, the choice was clear: Ralph Lauren — and likely for more than one gown. It’s rather fitting that Chopra will be wearing the American designer on her big day, given the significance of their Met Gala outing, orchestrated by the designer.
All we want to know is, when is the Nick and Priyanka Story coming to the big screen?
