It looks like Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s baby will have some serious Hollywood connections.
Rumor has it, the newlyweds are expected to ask their famous friends George and Amal Clooney to be the godparents of their future lil’ royal.
A source close to both couples revealed that the bond between them is much stronger than meets the eye. “Amal and Meghan have been close for years, and Harry and George have become buddies because of that,” the source told The Daily Mail, adding, “They’re much closer than the headlines let on.”
George and Amal attended Meghan and Harry’s royal wedding this past May, but their friendship was established long before the nuptials.
In August, an insider told E! that Meghan and Amal have really bonded over their quick ascension to fame. “It helps they’re both UK-based now, but they have been able to relate on a lot about their lifestyles, especially how to deal with being thrust into new situations in the public spotlight,” the source explained, noting that “Amal is like a confidante to Meghan.”
When it comes to godparent duties, George likes his chances. The actor has reportedly “told a couple of people he has a strong hunch” that he and Amal will be among Meghan and Harry’s picks.
Of course, as with most things, royal kids follow a slightly different protocol than your average children. They don’t just have one measly set of godparents, they have several. Prince George has seven sets of godparents, Charlotte has five, and Louis has six. Prince Harry and William, too, have six each. So it’s more than likely that baby Markle-Windsor will have a few more godparents — Jessica Mulroney, perhaps?
We imagine the Clooneys’ anticipation is akin to waiting to hear your name called at the Oscars. Remember, George, it’s an honor just to be nominated.
