It seems that we finally know the real reason why Kim Cattrall won’t be returning for a third Sex and the City movie.

While the 52-year-old has previously mentioned that she’s moved on from playing the outspoken Samantha Jones in the beloved franchise, that’s apparently not what kept her from signing on for a SATC reunion. (Nor is it solely the rumored tension between her co-stars or disputes about pay disparity).

According to sources at E! News, Cattrall’s decision to pull out of the highly-anticipated film came down to a “bad script.”

“Kim never wanted to really do the movie to begin with,” a source told E! News. “it was a combination of not great money and a bad storyline for Samantha.”

The plot had to have been pretty bad for Cattrall to peace out, so what exactly was the issue? Apparently, Samantha’s storyline was written to revolve around Miranda’s 14-year-old son Brady. Already creepy, right? Well, it gets worse. Per the E! News report, “Early in the film, Brady gets caught masturbating. He is also caught sending ‘dick picks’ of his erect penis to Samantha.”

Stylist Patricia Field used over 300 outfits as Sex and the City jumped from the small screen to the big screen. She reportedly stayed away from trends to inspire costumes for Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis. Instead, Field tried to hone in on each character’s personal style icons. Cattrall’s Samantha Jones’ wardrobe was inspired by Dynasty, personified in the bejeweled, sexy white one-piece she wears while in Mexico.

Given how her storyline was set to play out in the now-canceled film, we honestly don’t blame the actress for opting out of the movie. Her character deserved better.

This news comes after last week when Origins podcast host James Andrew Miller revealed that Mr. Big would have died from a heart attack, leaving the film to center around Carrie Bradshaw. Miller also revealed that Cattrall was bothered by the fact that the film would focus “more about how Carrie recovers from Big’s death than about the relationship between the four women.”

Maybe it’s all for the best that a third movie didn’t pan out.
